It's naptime! yay!! I'm at the computer downloading pics from the past couple of days and chowing down on some of the most amazing sweet and sour chicken from Cow and Bridge!! I had it the other night when we ate there and my hubby was kind enough to go pick some up for me today again!! Yummo!!
Yesterday we ended up at the pet market TWICE! We went with some new friends in the morning and then again with our group in the afternoon. What else do we have to do? And Gracie is usually pretty good in the stroller. Here are some pics from our two adventures today:
Braden, this picture of the chipmunks are for you. No, we did not buy you a pet!!
This was so cute! Gracie loves all the animals. There was an old grandmother standing to the side watching them. She would wince and make noises when Richard would let the puppies bite on his fingers. It was so cute. I should have taken a picture of her :)
The medicinal market is right by the pets. There are blocks and blocks of stores selling crazy stuff like this:
dried snake...anyone?
lizzard on a stick?
How about dried seahorses or fish stomaches? Our guide told us the dried frogs are used in desserts!!!! UGH!!! So thankful I haven't ordered dessert anywhere!!
So...what could these two pretty girls be doing on this street?
sorting LIVE scorpions with chopsticks!!
This is someone's apartment. There were lots of literal "hole in the wall" homes like this.
I love the little China cups in these bird houses.
Right next to the pets and medicine is the "food" street. The smell on this street was unbelievable! I do not care to go there again!! Anyone hungry????
These are across the street from the meat. Awaiting their fate!
Here are some...ready to eat. These were actually in a very busy shopping area.
I just had to take a shot of this store. It is in a mall of sorts. Can you imagine trying to buy anything in there? Some of you think Marshalls is bad!!!!
We have taken Gracie to this park 3 different times. She loves to play and is so coordinated...much better than Wesleigh. We have to guard both exits because you never know when she'll make a run for it!! Yesterday, though, she seemed to do much better. She can be sweet but she'll also pinch the fire out of the kids if you're not careful!
We finished up at Lucy's with a big glass of iced tea!! It comes with a little container of simple syrup so you can make it sweet!!! Boy was it good!!!!!!!!!! I'm so sad I didn't know about it until now!!
And...to finish the pics...a funny of Richard. She can actually put a small ponytail in his hair :) So funny!!
I am about shopped out and also out of money! One thing I have really enjoyed this trip is talking to the people here more. I think with 4 kids here last time, I didn't really have a chance. I was also never by myself. This trip, I have gotten to know some of the shop owners...met their children, and enjoyed giving them some business. It has been fun.
We had out consulate appointment today. It was good. Miss G is all decked out in her red, white and blue! I have pics...but will have to post them tomorrow. We check out of the hotel at 2:00 and are on our way at 3:00. We will ride the train to HongKong and spend the night there. Friday morning we will be on our way to the US!!! I am so ready to be home. Living out of suitcases for 2 weeks is getting old...and I miss my other kids in a bad way!!! Almost there!!!

What an experience..esp at the pet market/medicine area! Don't know if I could handle the pet area...knowing where they're headed...and the smell...ewww!!
Oh, and the shopping part! I like to dig, but that's even a little much for me!! lol
Almost home!! :)
Now, why do they have to go and put frog in the desert? I learned while we were there that they crush up the sea horses for fertility?! Seems to work :-)
Just as aside - I DID lose Mya for a minute in Target when we got home. She was by my leg and I was walking through the racks of clothes...expecting her to follow me like my other kids - nope! It was a rough minute and I learned - in the cart she goes!
Gracie is darling! Can't wait to see her in her red, white and blue!!
I was reading your post while eating my cereal and drinking my coffee this morning but had to put it aside for a little while. Wonder why??? LOL Yuck... to some of those sights but oh SO China isn't it. I can't wait to get there!!!!! Gracie is a doll and know it will be so great to get home and start life there. Blessings to you all while you travel and can't wait to see those red, white, and blue colors on that sweet girl!!! XO
This post and pics cracked me up. I was howling laughing. You are so funny with all your comments! Almost home!! Hang in there.
OK - So glad I missed this tour on all 3 trips!! GROSS!!!!
I can't get over Gracie's hair down... It truly is wavy? WOW!!! Sorry about the pinching. I am sure you will nip that in the you know what quickly!!!
I am glad you tried the iced tea!!!! :)
Tomorrow Hong Kong!!!! YAY!!
Hugs,
Di
Oh my gracious....sorting live scorpions, with chopsticks, all while talking on the phone! Wowzers! Very cool pictures. :) Little miss Gracie will be home before you know it!
Never again will I complain about sorting thru mounds of laundry while trying to order pizza over the phone!! Here these girls are sitting and chatting ON THE PHONE and SORTING LIVE SCORPIONS w/CHOPSTICKS! This puts a whole new spin on "getting things done in a PINCH"!!
I would have seriously been ("JIM CARREY" style) gagging in the "food district"! Seriously!!
Oh..ahem.."thanks" but I think I will pass on the "dried snakes"!
I can't wait to see Ms Gracie back at home and out on the baseball field at the boys games! Something tells me, she will be in the dugout w/the team!!
Love the pictures! I think I had the same reaction to most things at the market as you did:) the girls loved it though. Kit banged on all the dog cages where the dogs were sleeping and in Chinese yelled, "get up you're lazy!". You're almost home! Can't wait for you to be reunited with your family! Gracie is a doll!
I'm trying to figure out why they need to sort the scorpions? LOL So glad that Gracie loved the animals and the park.
I am so glad I missed the food area! I would have literally gotten ill.... Gracie looks sweet with all of her hair down! Pinching is not fun but it will eventually subside.
Great shots!!
You are almost home!!
Hugs,
Jody
Im so laughing at your little fire cracker. The differences between your girls seem so like mine. Wesleigh and Mia are so similar and Finley and Gracie seems so similar. Finley is much thicker than Mia and her hair looks like the texture of Gracie's while Mia's is the silky typical Asian hair. Finleys is more coarse and will hold a style while Mia's goes straight right away. When I saw the picture with her hair down I just laughed at another similarity. Too cute! I have loved following your journey. It has been a pleasure and I cant wait to see the girls together!!!!
My goodness, Gracie is reminding me of Madeline....M's hair is really thick and has wave and a little auburn as well:)
We MISS Guangzhou!!! These pics are wonderful. Lucy's, the park the fine shopping :) I want to go back!!!
ooooohhh, the sights and smells and sounds of China! The photos alone were worth a thousand words (and other senses!!)
LOVE the photo of her putting a pony in daddy's hair...too cute! Can't wait to see you at home and those first photos ALL together as a family! Happy packing and praying for safe travels home!
Blessings,
~Tanya
I loved the shopping, but I had Anne from Redthread take me. She knew how to get everywhere. I wasn't very brave on my own, except on the Island. Looks like things are going exceptionally well for you. Blessings
