So Far... So Good!

Here we are, the afternoon of Day Two. She had a rough time before bedtime last night and didn't eat or drink at all (except for Gerber puffs and cheerios). I finally laid her down in her bed and she played for about 30 minutes and then went to sleep. Much to my delight, she slept the whole night!! We had an early meeting at the Civil Affairs office, so I had to wake her up. She was NOT happy to see me this morning :) That's alright...we got dressed and went down to breakfast. She ate alot of eggs and congee, so that is progress.

At the Civil affairs office, we had a short interview and signed the paperwork saying we wanted to proceed with the adoption...just try to take her away from me!!! This is also where we gave the orphanage donation. Braden was very curious about what was going on and has lots of questions about the money part. We haven't been able to talk about it yet, but we will. In the eyes of China, Wesleigh is ours! The orphage directors were quite impressed with the boys. Not for anything they did, but because they are all boys!! I'm telling you...I'm quite the bomb here :)

The boys are still fighting over who's going to sit by her and who gets to hold her hand. I'm not letting them feed her yet because I want her to know that Richard and I are the most important :) It also cuts down on more arguing about that too! Overall, they have been amazing. They are all so proud of her and will do anything they can whether it's holding her diaper bag or even backing off when they need to.

After the civil affairs office, we went to the local walmart. We all got a big kick over it. I meant to bring my camera but forgot it in the van. Cade started gagging when we saw the dried chickens hanging. I was worried we might have a problem, but he held it together. While we were there, we got Wesleigh a stroller which my arms greatly thanked me for. She loved it and really started coming out of her shell. She was laughing at the boys and eating Gerber puffs like a pro!

We are now back at the hotel and Richard has taken the boys on a mission for McDonalds! VERY EXCITING!! Wesleigh let Richard feed her some noodles and is now taking a nap. She really is very sweet. Even when she was upset last night, she wasn't screaming, but the tears definitely flow! She wears her bow like a true southern girl and the orphanage directors seemed to get a kick out of it today ;) I don't think I brought enough layers for the liking of the Chinese women. I put Wesleigh in this warm up suit because it's the warmest thing I have. Hopefully, I won't get yelled at! She came in 3 very thick layers, so nothing could compare to that!

This afternoon we're going to do a little sight seeing with the other couple who is with us. It should be alot of fun. I really like this city. It is MUCH different than Beijing. Nanjing is considered the southern capital of China. "Jing" means capital. "Nan" means south. "Bei" means north. So we went from the northern capital to the southern capital. This city has lots of trees and flowers. The climate seems to be similar to ours in Louisiana. I will take some pictures and post them so those classmates can see the difference between the two cities.

I'm going to go clean up these rooms a little. It is hard for 6 people to live in these tight quarters, but we're doing pretty good.

Sounds like she is doing very well....I agree with you on the "feeding of Wesleigh" that only Mommy and Daddy should....great decision! When I think back on my two girls and when they were given to me I think of the deep fear they must have felt. People that look different...smell different....and speak differently...must not be all that comforting. But look how resilient they are....being able to giggle and laugh and trying so hard to relax with their new family. They are brave....they are the bravest little people I know...I remain in prayer for you.

P.S. I LOVE her bow! And I'll bet you really are the bomb there with three boys!

I love to see the big smiles on everyones faces. I'm so happy all is going well and I just love to see your family in the same rooms, with the same faces that brought Sam to us!! It's a great trip down memory lane! She's just beautiful and seems to be adjusting well! I hope and pray all continues to go smoothly! Good luck and enjoy this trip of a lifetime!!!

So happy to hear things are going so well. The boys look so proud and handsome. WHat a trip for them. Wesleigh is adorable and we all laughed about her love for the puffs. She looks like she might get a little heavy. Love to you this morning. Praying for another great night sleep!

Wesleigh is a beautiful addition to your family. As I was looking at the pictures from the Civil Affairs Office I kept thinking it looked to familiar and was going to ask if she is from Nanjing. Thanks to your last paragraph, you answered that for me.
Our daughter is also from Nanjing. We brought her home in May of 2008. Nanjing is a beautiful city and the people were very nice. If you like fried rice you need to go to Yig noodle that is connected to the Mandarin Garden Hotel, it is the best. Oh, and the best deals for shopping is at Confuscious Temple.

Have fun and I can't wait to see and hear more about your beautiful daughter.

I'll bet you are quite the BOMB there...with your blonde hair and beautiful eyes and 3 boys!!!!!! Yes, you are the ultimate woman!

Sorry that the tears were flowing for Lil Miss but you know that really that is god....she needs to do some grieving before she can really, truly attach to you. let her get it all out in China while you have your men to lean on.

Sound like the boys are being the amazing young men you and RIchard have raised them to be. I remember Dave telling me how Will rose to the occasion more than we could have ever expected in China (and Dave really needed Will there to help). It feels good to see our children be what we hope they would be.

Enjoy these days. Thinking of you and praying for you back here in the South:)

Love,
Kim

WARNING! I AM JENNIFER'S PROUD MOM!
I just want to thank all of you fellow adoptive parents and friends here in Louisiana for the support and prayers you have given to her and to our family. Thanks for paving the way - your blogs and comments will help teach us how to be grandparents to this extraordinary, miraculous blessing! Thanks for all of your encouragement in the Lord. I believe I have a new prayer burden-- to pray for all of you and all the future "yous". And for the nation of China! (Whoa, I'd better get busy!!)To say that adoption has touched our family - well, that's such a blatant understatement but I don't have the words to correct it!
And since I'm offering the disclaimer that "I'm her mother!" I'm going to brag shamelessly. When I think of the adjustment little Wesleigh is in the process of making, my heart breaks, but my daughter is like the "baby whisperer"- I've never, ever known anyone more gifted with small children (her inheritance from my mother... well, from the Lord). And how could pain not melt away in the light of that smile!! And Richard is a great dad! And what can I say about how proud I am of "the brothers".
Above all, our God is in the business of healing hearts. Ps. 68:5 says he is a "father to the fatherless" He called her by name from the womb (Ps. 139) -- and that name was WESLEIGH JANE DOUGHTY! He has been with her all along and soon she will know His name! I remember the story of Helen Keller who, although blind, deaf and dumb, was taught to communicate. When she was told about God, she excitedly signed "I KNOW Him - I just didn't know His name!" When little Wesleigh lay her precious head down in her crib in that orphanage, He hovered over her! What a God!
God knew little Wesleigh would be a southern belle, bows and all, for Acts 17:26 tells us "He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation." Wesleigh's boundaries has been extended and so have ours!
Thanks again for all the support. Keep it coming. Thank you Lord that I get to meet her on February 4! I love you, my precious daughter and granddaughter! Mama

What a beautiful family and how blessed you are to be receiving little Wesleigh into it. I hope things go as well for you at home as they seem to be in China. When I was in Nanjing, we found a nice pizza place downtown. (Pizza Inn, I think) Your boys are going to be awesome brothers, from the looks of it. Be careful not to spoil her too much! Hugs and Congrats--

I'll bet the boys are enjoying being celebrities! I am glad that they are getting their fair share of attention so there's no jealousy :) I am glad that Wesleigh is taking everyone & everything in stride - my heart broke to hear about her tears :( I know it is part of the process and that there is a lot of change & fear involved - she is being SO brave!!!
