What a Difference!

It's been 3 months since we've been home and it's hard to believe these two pictures are of the same girl. The difference is so much more than a pretty bow and a tutu. It's a light in her eyes. To be honest, looking at the two of these pictures together makes me want to sob. Three months ago we couldn't see the light that wasn't in those sweet eyes...now we do. It's amazing what a little love can do. How thankful I am that she is here with us, growing, changing, loving life and being loved. How sad I am for the thousands who still sit in orphanages.

This picture was taken the first time we saw this sweet face in person.

Taken 1 week ago after being home for 3 months.

Wesleigh has made so many strides since we got home. Her personality has really come out and she is definitely her mother's child! The biggest change we've had in this past month is her language. Just in the past few days has she started to use her language without repeating someone. She started by telling the boys "thank you" when they give her snacks. She will go to the bottom of the stairs and yell one of the boys' names to try to get them to come down. She initiates telling people "bye". Today in WM she started saying, "happy birthday" and then saying "yay!" with her hands raised. (she has a toy that has taught her that).

She loves seeing herself in pictures. Since we had our portraits taken, she's been looking at our family photo on the computer and points to everyone and says their name. So sweet. One reason I wanted to get those pics done when I did is because she loved to look at the different pics around the house. I wanted her to see herself in our family pics.

I can't believe we've only been home 3 months! She came running through the keeping room yesterday (brick floors). Richard and I looked at each other and said, "Can you believe how much better she is at that in only 3 months?". It is remarkable to see. What a blessing she is.

Wow Jennifer, you are so right. There was something missing in the first picture...a spark, something. It's definitely there in the second one. She is absolutely beautiful. Your family portraits were so awesome. I meant to comment several times but I got caught up in the pictures and never went back to comment. I can't get over how grown up the boys look in the pictures. You and Richard are truly blessed.

Jennifer, oh you are so right...the light is in her eyes...she looked so empty in that first photo. Now another one you might want to compare are the brothers photos before her and after her...because they have a love in their eyes that wasn't there before. It really shows in your new family photos. What a blessing for your whole family this child has been! If you ever want to see what love looks like...look at one of your family photos...its written all over your faces!
Praise the Lord for that sweet baby girl!

I agree about the boys - Ralph said they just didn't know how much love they had in them before Wesleigh. My heart breaks seeing the first picture now. I've never really seen the power of love so clearly. Thank you for persevering and blessing our family with this delightful child! I hurt for the orphans left there.

Truly remarkable!! That light is undeniable!! PS I received my Boy Mom tee that I ordered in the mail and I wore it to a minor league game that night in our town. People were laughing at my chest while I was walking through the breezeway of the stadium with the boys...I choose to believe that they were laughing at what the shirt on my chest said and not laughing at my chest for other reasons....lol. Thanks again for the recommendation, I love it!

Jen- I love seeing the contrast in Wesleigh's face from the two pics.
I do the same when I look at Isabella's.
Are we not blessed?!!

Even though she both pictures of just of her, she looks lonely in the first and just radiates love in the second!!

I'm new to your blog and haven't read a lot of it, but I had to comment on this. She's just stunningly adorable, and yes, what a difference in those two pictures!

I'm not generally a kid person, don't have any of my own (by choice), but I've been around them and have learned there is much to be learned from them. You have embraced them in a way I never could.

Just a little bit of reading (and I plan to come back and read all the way from the beginning, I did read all of the China posts) and I can just feel how much you love your kids... ALL of them, no matter their age or 'where' they're from. That is a love I wish every parent had for their child (and the same love I see in my best friend with her son). I think our world would be a much better place if this were true.

Thanks for wonderful reading and for putting your lives out there for folks to enjoy. :)
