Hoping For Calm

Well, everything seems to be pretty quiet around here. The boys are settling into the school schedule. I seem to be struggling a little more with the early mornings. Now that the Olympics are over, getting a little more sleep should be a little easier. Of course, with this around

the excitement level could change drastically. Let's hope we won't have to contend with that.

We had a scare here the other night. Alot of you know that we lost our home in a fire almost 3 years ago (5 days after Katrina). You can read about it here and here if you want. I always get a little freaked out as the anniversary rolls around again, but it gets easier and easier. However, a few nights ago, we were woken up by our alarm going off. We, of course, have smoke and heat detectors everywhere and they are all tied into our security system, so the whole house was blaring. Richard and I flew out of bed and smelled smoke. Fortunately, there was no fire, but there WAS smoke. Our doorbell had been buzzing the day before, but had started to smoke in the middle of the night. To say we were freaked out would be a huge understatement! We didn't even have words to say. Richard disconnected the doorbell completely, and turned off the electricity to that part of the house (it is still off). We have to get the electricians over to check it all out. Braden and Cade woke up but were pretty calm. Bryce slept through the whole stinkin' thing! I can't believe it. Now I have to worry about him not even hearing the alarm! How many people live their whole lives with their smoke detectors never going off? Now I have had 2 incidents (in the middle of the night, mind you!). What's up with that?

Well, I'm off to the boys' school. I am in charge of the accelerated reader wall at the school. I'll take a picture - it's huge. I need to work on that for a while.

Im sure the anniversary of your fire freaks you out a bit and any other sort of devistation would freak me too but hopefully things will stay calm.

Anyway, have a good week!!

OMG...I am so sorry that your family had to go through that!

It must have been so devastating.....fire has always been a fear of mine ever since I was a child.....it is tough to lose the material things and special memories, but I am so glad that you all escaped unharmed.

I went back and read both posts, the pictures were shocking!

Take Care,

Lisa

Don't you love Hurricane season down south?

Legally Blonde was on TV the other day & I thought of you. I love that movie :)

We are almost 99% sure that we are NOT taking the boys to China. An obvious reason is finance, but there are many others. As soon as I started people (who had traveled already) that we WEREN'T taking the boys, the real opinions started coming out about how we'd be so glad that we had that time to bond, etc...We are really looking forward to meeting Mya & being able to solely focus on her for 2 weeks! But, of course, we will miss the boys like crazy cakes!

Oh my gosh, I did not now about your house. I am so sorry to hear of it. We had a fire once in onbe room and lost some things that were precious to us. I can only imagine how hard that was for you. Now to have these two scares. UGH!!!

And my early mornings start soon...EEEK!

Oh yikes! We have lived through hurricanes (New Orleans), earthquakes, flooding, and riots (California)--- and I am still edgy about trucks rattling by. I didn't know about the loss of your house either, but I am so sorry! I'm going to check the batteries in my smoke alarms. A doorbell of all things! I would NEVER think of that! I know from our family's tragedy, that once something so terrible happens, you can never really truly relax again. It is a very difficult thing to live with.
