Dear Diary...

Cade has the most awesome teacher ever. One of my favorite things she does with them is that they write in a diary every day. This will be my most prized possession ever! They brought them home today to show them off so I was able to scan a few pages. I had read this entry at his open house and about fell out of my chair when I saw it. We are in a new neighborhood and there is a new filing going in behind us. The boys had been going to play on this ginormous dirt pile for about a week. They were having a blast and I didn't think they were bothering anyone because it was always after the workers were done for the day. Well, this certain afternoon, there was someone who actually chased the boys away...ON A BULLDOZER!! The funniest thing was that I had no idea. After seeing this diary entry, I asked the boys about it. They fessed up that, in fact, a bulldozer had chased them away. I asked them if they had decided together not to tell me and they said they had. (This doesn't give me much peace about future trouble-making) If you look close at his drawing (you can click on it to make it bigger), you can see a boy on a bike saying "run, boy, run!" I love it!!!

I'm afraid I scanned quite a few of these and just have to share them with you in the days ahead. They are absolutely hysterical (and a little scary)! Good or bad, I'm afraid Cade's teacher will know every detail about our family before the end of the year :0

This is so hysterical! I enlarged it....I loved the teachers note!

I think it is funny that they decided not to tell you, but he put it in the diary for his teacher to read!

You are right...she will know everything!

I am SOOOOOOOOOO excited!!! When I taught second grade that was the first thing my kids did when they got to school. They wrote an entry, drew a picture, and put in my mailbox for me to read and write back to them. My daughter Rosemary was in my best friend's class next door and they did the same thing. It was our prize possession too!!! It was a lot of work for me as a teacher and I usually took them home at night to write in them but I would think as a parent how much it meant to Rosie so I kept it up. Up to this day, we all LOVE reading them!!! They are priceless!!! I am so happy your son will have this excellent experience this year! How funny that he wrote it for his teacher not knowing you would read sooner or later- don't you love their innocence?:) Keep sharing- it makes me remember what I miss about teaching and remind me what to do with EK when she is older.
Blessings,
Sharon

OH this is priceless!!! I love this idea! Chelsi's 3rd grade teacher did this same thing...but unfortunately she didn't have them do it for the entire year...so we have the first 3 months of school...but oh how precious it is!!!
I cannot wait to read more!!!
Hugs!

Love the daily diary idea. In fact, I use it within my own jr. high classroom. I have had several parents of former students tell me later how much they treasure their child's journal. It's a great way to get kids to reflect about their life & put their true feelings down on paper without having to talk about it. Enjoy!

Love those boys. It makes me think of a quote from the book Raising Boys -- "they're just hardwired differently than girls". Just precious. Thanks for sharing

I love what his teacher said to him; I am sure that he also looks forward to her notes in return! I know my 9 year old likes to write in his special book too!

Just catching up, and this made me laugh so much! It reminds me of my boys! I have a few school journals like this, and I love to read them. Boys are really a force of nature, aren't they? "Run, boy, run!"--- That is so funny!

THAT is too funny!!!

My kids had to do this too and my favorite entries had to be when they wrote down memories of us doing family things together......it lets ya know how important it is to our children and what matters to them!

PRICELESS!
